The San Rossore Medical Centre performs neurosurgical interventions for the treatment of all diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system, but especially tumour, vascular, malformation and disembiogenetic complex pathologies, which require difficult treatment, as they affect deep parts of the brain and the skull base:

  • Meningiomas (in any location and in particular petroclival sphenoids and breast cavernous sinus)
  • Neurinomas of all of the cranial nerves (acoustic, optical, oculomotor, trigeminal, glossopharyngeal, accessory, hypoglossal are the most relatively frequent)
  • Glomus jugular tumours
  • Haemangiopericytoma
  • Chondromas and Chordomas
  • Adenoma of the pituitary gland
  • Epidermoids and Dermoids
  • Craniopharyngiomas
  • Neuroblastomas
  • Tumours in the pineal gland
  • Gliomas
  • Arachnoid cysts
  • Germinomas
  • Arteriovenous malformations (Angiomas)
  • Cavernous angiomas
  • Cerebral aneurysms
  • Neurovascular conflicts (neuralgia of the trigeminal, facial, glossopharyngeal or spinal accessory nerve), caused by abnormal contact between the artery, vein and nerve concerned

Spinal Surgery

The following spinal conditions are treated at the San Rossore Healthcare Facility:

  • Lower back pain and lumbosciatica
  • Herniated lumbar disc
  • Hernia of the Cervical and Thoracic Disc
  • Lumbar, Cervical and Thoracic Stenosis
  • Lytic and degenerative spondylolisthesis
  • Osteoporotic, traumatic and neoplastic vertebral fractures
  • Primitive or secondary vertebral neoplasms
  • Spondylitic infections and spinal abscesses

  • Spinal diseases from rheumatoid arthritis

The centre specialises in the:

  • treatment of vertebral and nervous pain using ultrasound and radio-guided techniques
  • osteoporotic fracture treatment using vertebroplasty
  • microsurgical and minimally invasive treatment of degenerative lumbar and cervical disorders (disc hernias and stenosis)
  • open surgery and/or minimally invasive treatment of lumbar spondylolisthesis of lumbar spine arthrodesis using open surgery and/or minimally invasive techniques involving screw fixation and posterior interbody fusion (PLIF, TLIF), lateral (XLIF) and anterior (ALIF)
  • anterior or posterior arthrodesis of the cervical spine
  • removal and vertebral reconstruction for secondary vertebral neoplasms
  • Microsurgical removal of spinal neuronoma or meningioma
