The main objective of this national campaign is to rise awareness regarding the diffusion of chronic nose pathologies, the importance of prevention and early diagnosis.
San Rossore Medical Center joins “My Rebel Nose” day, which is promoted by AICNA (Italian Accademy for Nose Cytology), by offering FREE CYTOLOGIES on Saturday the 18th of November from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

What is a nose cytology?
A nasal cytology is a very simple and non-invasive exam: The specialist samples a small amount of mucus with a small soft-plastic spoon from your nostrils, this sample contains precise info regarding inflammatory cells you may have in your nose, allowing a more accurate diagnosis and identification of the different kind of rhinitis. Cytologies can identify the risk of recurrence after nasal surgery for nasal polyposis and allow a more tailored pharmacological treatment.
The procedures is painless and has no side effect.
Nose cytology is a precious tool for a more accurate indentification of the type of rhinitis which allows for a more effective treatment.
Why is this in November?
“November is the only pollen-free month” says Veronica Seccia MD, PhD and ENT specialist at San Rossore Medical Center and promoter of this initiative. “For this reason if a person is still experiencing obstructed or runny nose, a cold or frequent sneezing without any apparent cause, they may have a chronic nose pathology. If that’s the case a cytology is the perfect tool to identify its cause.”
Should I apply for a free cytology?
This event is exclusively dedicated to people who are not suffering from seasonal allergies or who has nasal chronic symptoms outside their typical pollen season.
WARNING: To avoid any distortion of the test results it’s very important to stop any nasal spray treatment that may include antihistamines or cortisones 7 DAYS BEFORE PRIOR to the visit.
